When you factor in their relative infancy, ScanGuard is worth checking out if you’re looking for antivirus software that also comes with a VPN.

Despite the negative press, they’re not scammers, and while their service isn’t the best you’ll find online, there are a number of positives if you decide to give it a try.

Things We Like

Cross-platform functionality makes it easy to access the same account across multiple devices.

Identity protection features help to alleviate any worries of having your personal data stolen.

Customer service is some of the best you’ll find, with a range of different options available.

ScanGuard has a simple setup process.

The encrypted VPN further shields any data sent to and from your device.

Things We Didn't Like

The lack of readily available background information is sketchy, if somewhat understandable given that they’re a reasonably new software provider.

There’s no option for a free trial available.

Setup and User Interface

Setup of the ScanGuard antivirus software is quick and easy, with direct downloads available from their website. Once you’ve signed up and signed in, following the setup instructions will start you off with the recommended settings in less than 10 minutes.

The UI is intuitive, with the simple layout allowing for cross-device functionality. It means that you’ll have the same experience across multiple platforms, and it’s available on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS.

Detection and Removal Tools

A number of users have reported false detections, but we saw no issues during testing with ScanGuard. They offer real-time protection from a variety of threats, including ransomware, spyware and malware. Parental controls are in the works, but there’s nothing available at the current time of writing, so it’s not ideal if you want to moderate your child’s online activities.

On the plus side, their Experian powered Identity Protection features will alert you if you’ve been the victim of online fraud.

Additional Protection

ScanGuard promises the world, but overall protection could be improved on. They advertise that you can “prevent unauthorized access to your private data with our Two-Way Firewall,” but the problem is, it hasn’t been released yet! As you might expect, their current firewall isn’t the best, so we’re waiting on an update before doling out a higher score.

While it’s unlikely to speed up your computer like the website claims, their file management service is useful if you’d like to free up some additional memory.

Customer Support

ScanGuard has an extensive range of customer support options, including a dedicated 24/7 free hotline for any pressing issues. (Just don’t expect a local accent on the other end of the line.) Live chat is also available if you’d prefer to communicate via text, so it’s easy to get to the root of any problems. Their Knowledge Base is packed with guides and tutorials to help you along every step of the way, so they earn high marks for the overall care package.

Their Essential package comes in at $24.95 per year, but it’ll only work on one device. The Pro version is $39.95, allowing for three devices and extra features including the disk cleaner and the start-up guard. Finally, the Ultimate version ($59.95) comes with PC optimization tools and added web security, working on up to five devices. It’s reasonably cheap in comparison to the competition, with the added bonus of VPN protection.

ScanGuard issue refunds within the first 30 days, so you won’t have any problems if it isn’t working out.

Bottom Line

Despite a few issues, ScanGuard is still worth checking out if you’re looking for an all in one package. It takes time to build up trust, and people will always be naturally suspicious when it comes to a company that are just starting out.

If you’re willing to make a leap of faith, you’ll find decent software that gets the job done, and they’ve made an effort to allay any fears with their range of customer support options.
